Is the religious right of center in churches encouraging a down low culture in it’s congregation?
Given the mass of intolerance and non-acceptance of the vast majority of churches across the United states toward homosexuality and gay rights, is a culture of the down low being encouraged where homosexuality is once again driven underground as in the case of Ted haggard Jim McGreevey. The standard definition of the down low is Men who have sex with men who do not identify as gay or even Bisexual and ca be expanded to include women who have sex with women who don’t consider themselves Gay or bisexual.All these people are encouraged by the church to enter into heterosexual marraiges forcing many of them to deny their true sexual identities. If so why would the church consider this to be the healthier way to live ones life. Is it not a life based on lies and self deception? This prysbetarian church seems be just as intolerant as the catholic and evangelical traditions on the question of being able to live ones life as a true homosexual or Bisexual person in our society. Your Thoughts?
I agree on you with this subject. The main-stream conservative churches have abandoned the element of love for all people and replaced it with a political agenda. There are more interested in jocking for television time than helping fellow humans. How many times have you seen the likes of Jerry Falwell (RIP) or Pat Robertson on television expressing their opinion on a topic that does not even involve the church? Not to mention the poor old Teletubbies or Bert and Ernie, how much more can a puppet take?
All church leaders say that people especially gay people need to find religion. No one wants to go to church and listen to another man (so-called Man of God) talk about eternal damnation. What ever happened to the message of love?
This one church had me on their register although I had never attended it one time. They sent some people over to my house to talk with me about attending a three-day seminar and asked me about my financial information. They wanted their money cut directly from my check. Then they send me a thing in the mail telling me who to vote for in the election because they were right-wing conservatives who supported Anti-gay legislation. I wasn’t voting for those morons. I mean vote for Bush? What the…..?
If the churches can control the government and override or stockpile the Supreme Court (which Bush nearly did), then it could be a sad day for gay or bisexual people. Imagine if laws were passed that forbade the act of homosexuality in any form. They would probably be quicker to enforce that law than the immigration laws.
The sad thing about it is that the very leaders of the church who condemn homosexuality are often violating the laws or committing immoral acts. Stealing money, committing adultery and not to mention the number of cases of molestation and pedophilia. Is that the example the church is supposed to establish?
Sorry about the rant. This is one of my pet peeves. To top it all off, I am a very Christian man. And, yeah, I’m gay. But that doesn’t stop me from loving our Saviour.
